Help Us Reach Our Goal!

Join us in securing vital funding to empower adults and youth with education, support, and essential life skills, fostering independence and resilience in our community.

Together, We Can Make a Difference.

Our 2024 Spring2Action goal is to raise $45,000 for additional space and equipment. This will enable us to meet the growing needs of our programs which provide critical food, faith, education, support and life skills to at-risk adults and youth within our local Alexandria community.

  • Our Goal

MOLC has an immediate need for a larger facility.

The needs of our community have substantially outgrown our humble 1,500 square foot space, even with every inch being used for multiple purposes on a daily basis.

Our goal is to purchase an auxiliary container building to locate in our front parking lot, which will serve as a designated classroom and meeting space for our ongoing community programs.

  • Our Community

Our goal is to remain in the neighborhood to preserve our volunteer base, our relationship with the City of Alexandria, our participation in the Capital Area Food Bank network and our partnerships with local retailers who donate food daily.

  • Our Programs

A larger facility would also allow us to bring our community programs, such as our sewing school, single mother’s support group, and teen support group, under one roof.

Serving Food, Families & Faith Since 2019

Founded in 2019, Mother of Light Center is an independent not-for-profit Catholic charity entirely operated and led by volunteers. We serve everyone who seeks us out, regardless of religion, including Alexandria's food-insecure immigrant community.

Our current 1,500 sq ft space adapts to serve a wide variety of programs on a daily basis including our high-volume food pantry which distributes over 50,000 lbs of food per month to impoverished immigrants in Alexandria. We help support up to 4,000 people, including 1,600 children, each month.

To address the growing demand for our programs, which empower adults and youth with essential life skills, we are actively seeking funding. Our goal of $45,000 will expand our facilities and equipment, enabling initiatives like the sewing school, single mother's support group, and teen support group to thrive.

Our Stories

Victoria’s Story

"I called MOLC because I was in a crisis struggling with personal issues and was homeless with my baby daughter. MOLC helped me find shelter, visited me, and brought companionship and the supplies I needed. When I moved into an apartment, volunteers assisted with furniture, bedding, food, and other household supplies. I have maintained a job and I keep in touch with the Center. I am so grateful. All the support and love I have received at MOLC has helped me reclaim my life."

Evelyn’s Story

"I arrived without anything. For me, it was and still is, a light in the most difficult moments of my life and that of my children. It is my support. Every 15 days, they’ve provided me with quality and warm attention. The team of virtuous women and men see the needs of a community. They welcome us with affection and empathy every day. I only have infinite gratitude to Mother of Light and its team of volunteers who help me with food, cleaning supplies, clothes, and more. Thank you a thousand times, blessings, and thanks for the love you give without profit, only with the aim of helping others. "
