Community Connection & Compassion

Our Mission

The core mission of the Mother of Light Center (MOLC) is to establish a profound and compassionate connection with every individual and family whom God brings into our midst.

It is our vision to uplift the impoverished, destitute, and homeless men and women in our local community, aiding them in constructing lives imbued with stability, purpose, and hope – all for the greater glory of God and the salvation of souls.

With a coordinated and community-driven approach, augmented by the unwavering support of volunteers, we are wholeheartedly committed to embracing and assisting men and women who find themselves in conditions of poverty, need, or homelessness. Through the establishment of meaningful relationships, we provide spiritual guidance, encouragement, and the essential resources required to help them unearth their latent talents and potential. Our mission is to redirect their lives, facilitate job placements, secure permanent housing, and, most significantly, guide them to the profound understanding of God's boundless love.

Our Faith

The scripture from Matthew 25:40 encapsulates the essence of our faith: "Whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me."

Mother of Light Center (MOLC) is a Catholic organization within the Arlington Diocese, serving 23 parishes in Northern Virginia. Our services are available to all who seek our help, irrespective of their religious affiliations. MOLC's foundation lies in the life of Christ, wherein we find inspiration for our guiding principle – a life of service, giving, and sharing. By offering individuals the opportunity to recognize their inherent dignity and by viewing them through the lens of God's vision, we strive to treat them with the same profound compassion and care that Jesus extended to all.

The Saints Who Guide Us

  • Mother Mary

Because our focus is through Our Lady, the Mother of Light Center seeks to honor and serve our Blessed Virgin Mary, Mary Most Holy Mother of Light by helping those in need.

St. Teresa of Calcutta reminds us, “stay very close to Our Lady. If you do this, you can do great things for God and the good of people.”

  • St. Louis

St. Louis IX King of France would prepare meals in his palace and invite all the people to come and eat. He would make lists of people who couldn’t come and then deliver food to them, just as we do at the Mother of Light Center.

  • St. Elizabeth of Hungary

St. Elizabeth of Hungary was a princess dedicated to the poor and needy. She was known to give baskets of bread for those in need. She serves as an influence for Mother of Light Center, and we are blessed with daily donations of bread.

  • St. Martin de Porres

St. Martin de Porres spent his life administering to the poor and sick as a Dominican lay brother in the Convent of the Friars Preachers in Lima, Peru. His thoughtfulness, selflessness, humility, kindness, and dedication to prayer and serving others are an inspiration for Mother of Light Center and Catholics worldwide.

  • St. Teresa of Calcutta

“If you judge people, you have no time to love them. . . Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless. . . If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other.”

Small of statue, rocklike in faith, Saint Teresa of Calcutta was entrusted with the mission of proclaiming God’s thirsting love for humanity, especially for the poorest of the poor.
